Big Marine Lake is a 1,799.18 acre lake with a max depth of 60 feet, sandy
bottom, and an average water clarity of 8.5 feet. There are three access
points to the lake: DNR managed sites at the northern and southeastern parts
of the lake, and a Washington County site in the southwestern portion of
the lake. The Washington County boat launch is part of the Big Marine Park
Reserve. This county park includes a playground, fishing pier, boat
launch, and a 400 foot sand beach, as well as a visitor’s center. When completed,
the park will include over 1,800 acres of land with walking trails.
Big Marine Lake is the 4th largest lake in the Twin Cities Metro Area. Despite its size, the lake remains relatively unknown and has markedly less traffic than similar lakes such as Forest Lake and White Bear Lake. Owners on the lake, as well as locals and visitors, enjoy the quiet and peaceful nature of the lake while experiencing all forms of water recreation including excellent fishing.
